Although mintage numbers should give the impression that this issue should be somewhat common, it has proved to be especially scarce in mint-state quality. A good number of specimens were released into commerce after production and worn to circulated grades, but the vast majority of the rest are assumed to have been melted in 1918 under the Pittman Act. We are proud to be able to offer this rare find today as few as 5,000 of these issues may survive in MS-60 to MS-63 quality. Our MS-61 issues are attractive and carry excellent mint luster and no sign of wear. We have just two to sell.
