Product Description
1888 Philadelphia Morgan Silver Dollar Brilliant Uncirculated. Morgan mintages rose in the late 1880s when silver was still pouring out of the great Western mines. Unlike other coins of the day, many were held in reserve at banks and issuing mints — vast quantities of these Morgans were later lost in government melts. Today fewer than 3% of Philadelphia's original mintage of 1888 is estimated to remain in mint-state condition. Our Brilliant Uncirculated quality has nice original luster and no sign of wear.
1897 Philadelphia Morgan Silver Dollar Brilliant Uncirculated. In the first half of the 20th century, this Philadelphia Morgan dollar was an elusive rarity because only a tiny percentage had been released into circulation. In 1925, a numismatist reported that he had been unable to find a single circulated 1897 Philadelphia Morgan in commerce, after a six-year search! Mint-state specimens were even tougher to find until the 1950s. In the following decade, the U.S. Treasury sold off its remaining bags of the series, which included a good number of Uncirculated 1897 Philadelphia Morgans.
