This issue is one of the rarer classic silver commemoratives, especially in uncirculated grades. While a huge number were authorized to celebrate the 100th anniversary of Missouri's statehood, many unsold coins were later melted. Further muddying the waters, two versions were struck, but the exact mintage breakdown remains controversial, even among experts! Released in the city of Sedalia, the half dollar's obverse features a bust of Daniel Boone wearing his iconic hat. The frontiersman again appears on the reverse, but is accompanied by a Native American; both men are surrounded by 24 stars.
