The 1927-S Peace dollar mintage was a tiny fraction of some earlier outputs in the series. Its 866,000 production was less than 5% of the 1922-1923 averages. And only a very small proportion of these Peace dollars survive today in About Uncirculated condition. AU coins possess original luster, but merely a trace of wear at highest points. Sometimes the price gap between AU and BU is as slight as the quality difference. But for this 1927-S issue, BU quality regularly sells for $325.
