This classic commemorative half dollar was issued for the celebration of Texas' century of independence beginning in 1934 and continuing until 1938. Evoking the true essence of the wild west, the obverse of the 90% silver coin features the Lone Star of Texas with an eagle perched in front. The elaborate reverse depicts the winged figure of Victory with arm resting atop the Alamo and portraits of the founders of the Republic of Texas, General Sam Houston and Stephen Austin.
