1935-1939 Arkansas Centennial Silver Half Dollar BU – This 90% silver commemorative half dollar was issued by the state of Arkansas to celebrate the 100th anniversary of its acceptance into the Union. The souvenir coin was minted for a period of five years by the Philadelphia, Denver and San Francisco Mints, yet only 85,000 were ever struck. Its reverse depicts jugate busts of a Native American and Liberty; the obverse depicts an eagle with wings spread wide. Our octogenarian specimens remain in lustrous BU condition. 1936 Long Island Tercentenary Silver Half Dollar XF – A surge in popularity led to the peak issuance of commemorative coins in 1936 with 16 different events celebrated across the nation. Among the many souvenir coins output in 1936 was this 90% silver half dollar that marked Long Island's 300th anniversary of a Dutch settlement in Jamaica Bay. Designed by the son of A.A. Weinman, the obverse depicts jugate busts of two men; a Dutch colonist and a Native American. An engraving of a Dutch ship in full sail appears on the reverse. Sharply detailed Extra Fine quality.
