Regarded as America's finest silver coin design, this superlative 90% silver half dollar was up for retirement in 1941, but Congress decided to extend the patriotic issue through World War II. Produced in Philadelphia, Denver and San Francisco, these silver dollars emerged as America was helping to win the war. Just a few years later, the series ended as the Franklin half dollar took its place. Used extensively in commerce and often melted for silver value, many of the original output are no longer available for collectors. The Extra Fine quality specimens offered here circulated lightly, but retain sharp details. Our choice of mintmark.
