The first peso struck by the San Francisco Mint as America governed the Philippines after Spanish rule, this dollar contains 26.95 grams of silver. Later issues had a lower silver content. Shown is Liberty breaking the chains of tyranny with a smoldering volcano in the background. On the reverse is a unique U.S. eagle and shield and the inscription United States of America; the Spanish Filipinas is inscribed on the obverse. Nicely detailed Extra Fine quality.
