These big, silver 2½ guldens were issued during the reign of King Willem III. Born in 1817, the former Prince of Orange became king of the Netherlands and Grand Duke of Luxembourg in 1849 upon the death of his father. Dutch guldens were the currency of the Netherlands from the 15th century until 2002 when they were replaced by the euro. The obverse of this hefty coin depicts King Willem III in his earlier years, while the reverse displays a crowned shield with date and denomination. Sharply detailed Extra Fine quality.
