Introduced in the Gold Rush year of 1849, this magnificent coin was the U.S. Mint's largest of the 19th century, containing almost an ounce of pure gold. The Liberty personification differs slightly from the $10 gold coin then current. The intricate eagle-with-shield engraving on the reverse is unique, embellished with glorious rays above and florid scrolls below. The motto In God We Trust was added in 1866. Extra Fine quality.
