Introduced in the Gold Rush year of 1849, this magnificent $20 coin was the U.S. Mint's largest of the 19th century, containing almost an ounce of pure gold. The Liberty personification differs slightly from the $10 gold coin that was then in circulation. The intricate eagle-with-shield engraving on the reverse is unique, embellished with glorious rays above and florid scrolls below. The motto In God We Trust was added in 1866. Extra Fine quality.
