1888 Philadelphia Morgan Silver Dollar Very Fine. This 1888 Philadelphia Morgan had an original mintage of 19.2 million. However, a disproportionate number were lost in the vast U.S. Treasury melts of the 20th century and more have certainly disappeared during recent silver boom times. As few as 3% of the original mintage remains in mint-state quality. That puts added pressure on circulated specimens like this Very Fine issue.
1892-O New Orleans Morgan Silver Dollar Very Fine. Morgan silver dollar mintages plunged dramatically in the 1890s, because a relatively high number was already in commerce. In 1892, the Treasury stemmed the New Orleans production to just 2.7 million, only about one-third of the previous year's O-mintmark output. This issue in mint-state quality retails for over $600! Today, as few as 133,000 of the 1892-O issue are estimated to survive in the nicely detailed Very Fine quality we offer or higher grades.
1897-S San Francisco Morgan Silver Dollar Very Fine. The three 1897 Morgan silver dollar mintages (Philadelphia, New Orleans and San Francisco) amounted to the lowest combined outputs for the series in the late 1890s, when production was far less than during the 1880s. The S-mintmark San Francisco issue is the best regarded for the quality of its minting. In our clearly detailed Very Fine quality, the 1897-S is markedly scarcer than some earlier issues that cost as much or more.
