1972 Proof Set 5-Coin. The 1972 proof set's 3.3 million mintage was lower than some later U.S. proof sets that today cost considerably more. It was one of the first San Francisco (S mintmark) proof sets, which are regarded as the finest in U.S. minting history. The set contains proofs of the cent, nickel, dime, quarter and half dollar and comes in official U.S. Mint packaging.
1972 Mint Set 11-Coin. The 1972 mint set includes three cents (P, D, S), two nickels (P, D), two dimes (P, D), two quarters (P, D) and two half dollars (P, D) for a total of 11 coins. Its mintage of 2,750,000 was significantly less than that of the 5-coin 1972 proof set, which regularly sells for the same price. To protect their pristine beauty, the hand-selected BU coins are enclosed in transparent plastic holders with an official mint medal of the issuing mints.
