New Orleans Morgan silver dollars are very popular for their value in relation to scarcity. This vintage 1883-O silver dollar, issued well over 125 years ago, was struck by the historic New Orleans Mint in the heyday of the series. Its mintage of 8,725,000 was well below the principal Philadelphia Mint's 12.2 million output for that year. Only a fraction of the original mintage survives today and few in this choice quality. Choice MS-63 is a coveted premium grade on the official American Numismatic Association grading chart. Generally, only a small fraction of MS-63 specimens, displaying exceptionally nice luster and only minor surface flaws, exist compared to the number of average mint-state silver dollars for a particular date.
