Product Description
1838-1859 Seated Liberty Silver Half Dime. The Seated Liberty engraving was modeled off of Britannia, the figure shown on British coinage. The small 90% silver half dime was the five-cent denomination used from the 1790s until the 1860s when the first nickels were introduced into American commerce. Even after the debut of the nickel, the petite half dime would continue to be minted until the early 1870s. These Good quality silver half dimes retain major designs and clear dates. Our choice of date and mintmark. Variety type may differ from one shown.
1865-1889 Liberty 3 Cent Nickel. Obsolete for well over a century, this historic coin was introduced after the Civil War, when super-hard nickel was no longer needed for armaments. Only 32 million ever existed. Even in their own day there weren't nearly enough of these coins to go around. Most got a lot of use in commerce and the great majority were destroyed after recall. The compact piece, with one of the prettiest Liberty engravings on U.S. coinage, was originally referred to as postage stamp money, as it was convenient for buying 3 cent stamps. Comparatively few have survived in our well-preserved Fine quality.
