1878 7, 7 Over 8 & 8-Tail Feather Morgan Silver Dollar Trio AU: Pssst... we'll let you in on a little secret: in many instances, choosing Morgan specimens in About Uncirculated condition can save quite a bit of your hard-earned cash. Take for example this trio of essential first year 1878 varieties. Combined, the sought after eight, seven over eight, and seven tail feather subtypes struck by the Philadelphia Mint sell for almost $1,900 in average, garden-variety BU quality. But by selecting this same trifecta of specimens with just a whisper of wear in next-best About Uncirculated condition you'll save big over the cost of mint-state!
1904 P, O & S Morgan Silver Dollar Trio XF: This minimally circulated Extra Fine trio of sort-of-last 1904 Morgans is just the ticket if you don't want to invest a significant chunk of change for higher grade specimens. While average mint-state Philadelphia and New Orleans 1904 silver dollars are relatively affordable, it's the elusive San Fran issue alone that'll set you back four to five figures – and that's if you can even find one! A combined 8.8 million Morgans were output across all three mints in what would be – for all intents and purposes – the final year of the series (it truly was for New Orleans!) as a plethora of silver dollars were already in circulation and millions more were tucked away for a rainy day...
1921 P, D & S Morgan Silver Dollar Trio XF: Not to put too fine a point on it, but the Morgan series didn't actually end after 1904 – in hindsight, it was merely suspended. Remember all those silver dollars that were tucked away? Well, nearly 300 million Morgans were converted to bullion and sold to Britain during WWI. Luckily, a provision of the Act under which they were liquefied authorized the later minting of silver dollars equal to the number melted. This was to begin in 1921 – problem was, the Morgan's hubs had been destroyed not long after Liberty's Phyrgian cap had been hung, and thus were recreated – these final specimens carry engravings unique to the series and famously tiny micro-mintmarks.
