Product Description
At the time of the initial 1878-S Morgan's minting, the recently opened San Francisco Mint possessed the latest, most advanced equipment of U.S. mints. And the new Morgan silver dollar was its specialty, so more care could be lavished on what would become America's most famous silver dollar. As beautiful as average mint-state specimens of this admired Morgans are, you'll find that near-gem MS-64 quality offers an amazing dimension of burning luster and almost flawless surfaces. Not only are they extraordinarily stunning, but they're also much scarcer than ordinary Brilliant Uncirculated quality. For every MS-64 or better specimen surviving, there are 13 average BU coins available for this 1878-S issue. It's authoritatively estimated that only 52,000 MS-64 or better 1878-S Morgans exist. And very, very few are ever available in the marketplace.
