Product Description
1885-P Morgan Silver Dollar BU. Morgan silver dollar mintages steadily rose in the 1880s, when silver was still pouring out of the great Western mines. But unlike other coins of the day, many Morgan dollars were held in reserve at banks and issuing mints. Vast quantities of these Morgans were later lost in government melts, therefore original mintages can be deceiving in relation to the actual number now surviving for individual issues. Today as little as 6% of the original 17.8 million mintage of 1885 Philadelphia Morgans is estimated to survive in beautiful Brilliant Uncirculated quality.
1886-P Morgan Silver Dollar BU. This no-mintmark Morgan of the principal mint was struck during the heyday of the popular series. Its mintage of 19.2 million broke the previous individual record for Morgan production. But that original mintage is very deceptive in our day, because a vast number were held in storage at the Treasury, and later melted down during the two world wars. In fact, fewer than 10% of the original production is estimated to survive today in the mint-state quality. Our Brilliant Uncirculated quality has nice original luster and no sign of wear.
