This silver half dollar was authorized by Congress to raise funds for the International Exhibition that celebrated the opening of the Panama-Pacific Canal. The Act allowed a mintage of 200,000 pieces, but only 60,030 were struck. Designed by the U.S. Mints famed engravers Charles Barber and George T. Morgan, the engravings on the early commemorative are stunning. This special issue is not often seen in the marketplace, but is considered one of the most important in the series.
