In 1921 under a provision of the Pittman Act, the U.S. Mint devoted most of its resources to churning out millions of silver dollars. That year would prove to be the Philadelphia Mint's lowest output of Mercury dimes in the series, with just 1,230,000 pieces struck. Denver was the only other branch mint to strike the petite silver dimes; its output of just over one million would become the second lowest mintage for the overall series. Today, both of these key date issues are challenging to find in mint-state grades which puts added pressure on circulated specimens like the Good quality pair we are offering.
