The Morgan series didn't actually end after 1904 as was expected – in hindsight, it was merely suspended. Remember all those silver dollars that were tucked away? Well, nearly 300 million Morgans were converted to bullion and sold to Britain during WWI. Luckily, a provision of the Act under which they were liquefied authorized the later minting of silver dollars equal to the number melted. This was to begin in 1921 – problem was, the Morgan's hubs had been destroyed not long after Liberty's Phyrgian cap had been hung, and thus were recreated – these final specimens carry engravings unique to the series and famously tiny micro-mintmarks.
