The superlative Peace silver dollar was planned as a shining tribute to peace, after World War I, the war to end all wars. It proved to be the last 90% silver dollar issued for U.S. commerce.

This 1924 no-mintmark Philadelphia issue's output was about 20% of the previous year's. Comparatively few Peace silver dollars were withheld from commerce by banks and the Treasury, or saved by collectors in original mint-state condition. Today in our Brilliant Uncirculated quality it's scarcer than many early Morgan silver dollars.

These treasures were released when a dollar was a dollar. In those days most breadwinners earned less than $20 a week and each coin was needed for life necessities. Only limited numbers were saved in this mint-state quality with no trace of wear and their original splendor intact.
