First minted in 1916, the Mercury dime served Americans through both WWI and WWII. Struck in 90% silver, these small denomination coins had impressive buying power in their day. The official name for this silver dime series designed by Adolph A. Weinman during the Golden Age of American coinage is technically the Winged Liberty Head. Liberty's winged cap was intended to represent freedom of thought, but was so often mistaken for the Roman god Mercury that it earned the classic silver dime its moniker. Our set includes a trio of 1942, 1943 and 1944 Philadelphia dates in impressive Brilliant Uncirculated condition.
