Issued when U.S. quarters still contained 90% precious silver, this impressive coin remains in mint-state quality although it is over six decades old. In 1959, a total of just 86 million quarters were produced in Philadelphia and Denver (none were issued in San Francisco that year). Today, almost three billion quarters are output annually and those clad issues still feature George Washington. Only a fraction of these original 1959 specimens survive today in this good as new Brilliant Uncirculated quality. Most entered circulation and a vast number have been melted during silver booms.
