The U.S. Mint revived the traditional-size silver dollar in 1971 after a 35-year hiatus (none had been minted since the final 1935 Peace silver dollar). This first U.S. 40% silver S-mint dollar was issued directly to collectors and was just 5% of the 1971 copper-nickel output produced for circulation. Shown are President Eisenhower and the Eagle on Moon Apollo 11 emblem (our space program began under Ike's administration).
