Product Description
In 1971, the traditional-size silver dollar was revived with the Eisenhower series. No U.S. dollars had been minted since the final 1935 Peace dollar. Shown is President Eisenhower, who had died in 1969. On the reverse the American Eagle lands on the moon a tribute to the space program inaugurated during Ike's administration. Our pair features both a Brilliant Uncirculated specimen as well as a proof coin. The 1971-S Ike proof was the first silver dollar proof issued to general public by the U.S. Mint. Both big dollar issues feature 40% silver content and boast low mintages of 4.2 and 6.8 million respectively.
