The nation's first small dollar series was a flop, struck from just 1979-1981 and again in 1999. The first U.S. coin to depict a real woman was unpopular in commerce for a multitude of reasons, one of which was its confusing resemblance to the quarter. The Mint saw the writing on the wall because in 1980, less than 80 million Susie Bs were issued by the three mints — a drastic drop from over 700 million the year before. Although circulation strikes were produced the next year, they were never released into commerce. Our set includes a Philadelphia, Denver and San Francisco specimen in Brilliant Uncirculated quality.
