No U.S. mint sets were produced in 1982 and 1983 due to federal budget cuts. The 1981 mint set was the last official issue before a government cost-cutting measure eliminated the program. That 13-coin set contains three Susan B. Anthony dollars from the Philadelphia, Denver and San Francisco Mints. Early in 1981 the Treasury decided not to follow through on the three planned circulation mintages for the dollar, which meant that the SBA coins were issued in Brilliant Uncirculated quality only in the 1981 mint set. Congress restored funding in time for the 10-coin 1984 mint set's release.
