Product Description
In 1994 the U.S. Mint offered a special set in celebration of Thomas Jefferson's importance to numismatics as the father of America's decimal coinage system and for contributions leading to the creation of the United States Mint. This exceptional set features a Brilliant Uncirculated 1993 Thomas Jefferson commemorative silver dollar, a Brilliant Uncirculated 1994 Jefferson nickel and a 1976 $2 bank note. Unbeknownst to collectors, a special finish was used on the nickels in the set to match the surface of the silver dollar. Created by striking the coins twice with sandblasted dies, the nickels were described as "matte finish" and have come to be considered a separate issue from the business strike.
