Maria Theresa silver thalers were originally struck in the first year of her reign over the Austrian Empire. The big silver coins were a splendid part of the age of Haydn and Mozart in Vienna. Since 1920, the coin has been restruck occasionally by the Vienna Mint and dated 1780. These issues are used as a circulation silver dollars in areas such as Africa and the Middle East.
