Product Description
In the early 20th century common U.S. coins — particularly five cent pieces — began turning up in pocket change with curious, metamorphic engravings. Coined "hobo" nickels, these unique pieces of art were attributed to the migrant workers who hopped on and off boxcars across America seeking employment. The large obverse bust and soft metal of the Buffalo nickel made an ideal canvas for talented engravers. Original hobo nickels are sought after and easily fetch a premium in the marketplace, which can put them out of reach for many collectors. As an affordable alternative, we've acquired genuine, circulated Buffalo nickels that have been engraved using modern methods. Obverse engraving may vary from shown.
