A royal visit from King George VI to New Zealand and Australia was proposed for 1949, but the King's health issues intervened and the tour never commenced. Although the visit never took place, just over 200,000 of these silver crowns had already been created by the Royal Mint in London and are now popular numismatic collector's items.
