In 1944, General Douglas MacArthur fulfilled his pledge of I shall return by beginning to liberate the Philippines from Japanese occupation. After the war, the first silver coins of an independent Philippines honored MacArthur with two different portraits of the liberator on this 50 centavos and peso pair. Both were created by the illustrious American sculptor Laura Gardin Fraser. The reverse displays the new republic's national crest. Brilliant Uncirculated.
