Product Description
After the bombing of Pearl Harbor, Japanese forces invaded the Philippines. To emphasize their control, the Japanese demonetized local currency and issued their own occupation notes. In response, plucky guerrilla fighters and free provinces began printing emergency currency by the authority of their exiled president. A wide variety of notes materialized, one of which was this 20 pesos note. Printed in 1942, it featured a crude portrait of U.S. President Franklin D. Roosevelt, who had granted the Philippines their independence in the 1930s. Genuine Circulated note housed in an informative folder.
Obverse: Roosevelt at left, denomination at center, seal at right; Reverse: Woman standing at center striking anvil with hammer; Dimensions: 159 X 72 mm.
