A shortage of small denomination coinage developed during the Civil War. To fill the void, fractional currencies referred to as shinplasters circulated throughout the struggling economy from 1862 on into the Reconstruction Era, until discontinuation in 1876. Physically smaller than other paper money, fractional currency has a face value of less than one dollar and carries no serial numbers. Most were eventually destroyed. You will receive three different, nicely preserved notes in Circulated condition. Size, denomination and dates will vary.
