The all-copper U.S. half cent could purchase a number of items in its day. And it was convenient in making change for the Spanish-American silver real (royal), which retained legal-tender status in the U.S.A. as a 12_ cent coin until 1857. Much bigger than today's cent and even larger than our current nickel, the U.S. half cent carried three distinct types of Liberty personifications in the 19th century. Our choice of 1800-1808 date.
