Product Description
This famous scarcity originated during the presidency of Thomas Jefferson, who recommended the engraver John Reich to the U.S. Mint. The buxom Liberty personification wears the liberty cap of antiquity, symbolizing hard-won freedom. The German-born Reich himself had earned freedom from servitude. The eagle and shield reverse was another early U.S. coin masterpiece. This largest U.S. coin of its time is much bigger than later half dollars. Its denomination is inscribed around the edge of the coin. Fine quality. Our choice of date.
