Product Description
These 1978 U.S. proof and mint sets were the final regular sets to include a traditional-size dollar coin. In 1979 the Eisenhower dollar was replaced by the Susan B. Anthony first small dollar. The 5-coin proof set was one of the first San Francisco Mint sets to feature frosted engravings and mirror backgrounds. And the last 1978 Eisenhower dollar proof was issued only as part of this set. So dealers have broken up a good number of sets for individual Ike proofs. The 12-coin mint set features the final two Philadelphia (no mintmark) and Denver (D) Ike dollars. The set's mintage of 2.2 million was far below that of the 1981 mint set, which sells for more.
