The Jefferson Nickel has been produced each year since 1938. The lowest mintage circulating issue in the long-running series is the 1950-D Denver nickel. Just 2,630,030 of this key-date issue were released. That low-mintage number was immediately noticed by collectors so many were saved at the time of issue and remain today in Brilliant Uncirculated quality. Some Jefferson nickel mintages since have been over a billion.
