Struck from bonanza silver mined at such legendary sites as Tombstone and the Comstock Lode, this issue emerged from the old San Francisco Mint, greatly admired for possessing state-of-the-art equipment. It is often considered the most beautifully minted in the entire series. Large quantities of the issue were not released into commerce, but stored by the U.S. Treasury.
