Product Description
By 1884 huge numbers of Morgan silver dollars had been struck and with plenty already in the economy, surplus coins from all mints were stuffed, crammed and packed like sardines into government storage vaults. But contrary to that practice, it seems that of the 3.2 million 1884-S Morgans minted, most were released into circulation, and the small portion that did remain in the Treasury's possession was further decimated by government melts. Mint-state examples are truly rare as evidenced by a 2020 auction at which an 1884-S Morgan graded MS-68 — the finest known specimen in existence — sold for a massive $750,000! As most collectors don't have pockets that deep our nicely detailed Very Fine specimens are a great choice to fill that space in your collection.
