The 1932 issue was specially struck to commemorate George Washington's 200th birthday. It proved so popular that it inspired the regular series that continues in a revised form today. This first 1932 date has remained by far the most elusive in the entire series. Just 408,000 silver quarters were struck at the San Francisco mint that first year. Today only a fraction survive in this well-preserved Fine quality.
