Product Description
First Year 1878-CC Morgan: Every collector should have at least one Morgan silver dollar struck by the legendary Carson City Mint in their collection, so here's your opportunity to lasso yourself a first year specimen at an affordable price! This inaugural CC's output of 2.2 million was extremely limited in comparison to those produced by Philadelphia and San Fran that same year. In average mint-state condition, this first Wild West date sells for over $1,100, which makes this well-preserved Very Fine quality enticing indeed!
Affordable Option 1890-CC Morgan: Carson City struck 2.3 million silver dollars which was the lowest output of any mint in 1890. But with a plethora of silver dollars already in commerce much of its original mintage was tucked away in storage vaults. Today, just a small number remain as the vast majority of stored coins vanished in government melts decades later. Mint-state 1890-CC issues regularly retail for $1,499, but a pleasantly detailed Very Fine specimen is much more affordable.
Few Survive1879-CC Morgan: In only the second year of the series, just 756,000 Morgans were output for commerce by Carson City in 1879; for that same date Philadelphia, New Orleans and San Francisco produced silver dollars into the millions. Mint-state 1879-CC issues can easily sell for five figures, which puts added collecting pressure on circulated grades. Today, expert opinion holds that as few as 1.5% of the 1879-CC's original mintage may survive in the Very Fine quality we offer here or higher grades.
Second to Last 1892-CC Morgan: Production at this small Carson City Mint scaled down as less silver was being mined at the nearby Comstock Lode. The 1892 issue would be the second to last Morgan struck by the Carson City Mint. Its mintage of just 1,352,000 silver dollars proved to be the lowest CC output since 1889. It's estimated that as few as 70,000 of the original output may survive in our nicely detailed Very Fine quality or higher grades today.
