This bookend duo highlights both the beginning and end of the most loved and collected United States silver dollar series. With minimal wear, these sharply detailed specimens still exhibit the coining prowess of the great San Francisco Mint. When the newly opened San Francisco facility produced its first Morgan dollars, its minting equipment was among the world's finest; the first five years that Morgans were output by this mint are almost universally acknowledged to be the most beautifully struck in the entire series. Following the suspension of the series in 1904, new hubs were created and the production of silver dollars was resumed in 1921. As a result, the 1921-S has a unique look, with modified relief engravings and a famously micro mintmark.
