Product Description
1880 Morgan Silver Dollar AU, Issued just two years after the Morgan dollar's introduction in 1878, the 1880 Philadelphia Morgan had relatively high mintage of 12.6 million. But today it's a relative scarcity because tremendous numbers were lost in later U.S. government melts during the world wars — hugely disproportionate to the other mint's issues of the day. These almost mint-state specimens feature impressive luster and clear engravings.
1880-O Morgan Silver Dollar AU, Often in the Morgan series, BUs cost just a few dollars more than AUs. But these AU issues are a real exception. About Uncirculated silver dollars boast original mint luster, but have just a trace of wear at the highest points of the designs. An average mint-state 1880-O regularly sells for several hundred dollars higher. Why the big price gulf between AU and BU for this issues? Strictly graded mint-state quality is very scarce; just 3% of the original output may now survive in BU quality.
