Product Description
Every collector wants to own a Carson City Morgan silver dollar, but only a very few will be able to boast of possessing one of these beloved treasures in this most impressive quality. We were recently offered a small cache of these tough to find coins in GSA packaging and knew our customers would love them. You deserve to acquire one for yourself and we've put them on sale to help.
Collectors have been bewitched by the CC mintmark for ages, and for good reason – the remote Nevada facility's total production accounted for just 2% of the entire Morgan series. After minting, many Carson City Morgans never entered commerce and were instead stashed away, left to moulder in Treasury vaults for nearly a century.
When Treasury sales of the hoarded silver dollars commenced in the 1960s, it was discovered that a significant portion of those Morgans that were lucky enough to have escaped Uncle Sam's melting pot were, in fact CC issues. Eventually, in the 1970s and '80s the U.S. General Services Administration (GSA) took charge of the final Carson City Morgans. The GSA silver dollars were specially mounted in plastic cases and sold to collectors. In the decades since, many specimens have been liberated from the confines of their GSA mounts, leaving a much smaller number available in this now-desirable state.
