If you don't yet own one of America's most scandalous silver coins now's a great time to take advantage of this offer! We'll include the original "topless" type and a trio of Type II specimens for a total of four coins. Numismatic lore has it that when the original Standing Liberty quarter rolled off the coin presses and into circulation in late 1916 and early 1917, its beautiful obverse engraving shocked many priggish Americans, as Ms. Liberty's breast and thigh were – shall we say – unveiled. In response, a new version of the silver quarter emerged partway through 1917; sculptor Hermon A. MacNeil modified his design, covering the scantily clad Lady Liberty in a suit of chain mail, which also happened to coincide with America's inevitable entry into WWI. Liberty would maintain her armor until the series' end in 1930. Good to Fine quality.
