The Society for the Suppression of Vice charged the coin with obscenity Ì´ÌÔ Liberty has an exposed breast and thigh Ì´ÌÔ and demanded its recall. Meanwhile, the U.S. entered World War I and it was deemed appropriate that Liberty be covered up in medieval chain-mail! Every later 1917-1930 Covered Breast Type II issue carries the revised design.
