This 90% silver half dollar was struck for the centennial anniversary of the city of Cleveland, Ohio's founding. Fortuitously, the souvenir coin's release would also coincide with the 1936 Great Lakes Exposition. A portrait of Moses Cleaveland, founder of the city is shown on the obverse. Reverse depicts a compass stretching over a map of the Great Lakes. Just over 50,000 pieces were minted by Philadelphia. Our octogenarian specimens remain in lustrous BU condition.
