1936 Long Island Tercentenary Silver Half Dollar BU: In 1936 a surge in popularity led to the peak issuance of commemorative coins – 16 different events across the nation were celebrated. Among the many souvenir coins output that year was this 90% silver half dollar that marked Long Island's 300th anniversary of a Dutch settlement in Jamaica Bay. Designed by the son of A.A. Weinman, the obverse depicts jugate busts of two men; a Dutch colonist and a Native American. A Dutch ship in full sail appears on the reverse. Just 81,826 were struck more than eight decades ago; our lovely specimens remain in lustrous Brilliant Uncirculated quality.
1946 Iowa Centennial Silver Half Dollar BU: This 90% silver half dollar was issued to commemorate the centennial anniversary of Iowa's admission to the Union. Just 100,057 were minted; of those, 1,000 were set aside for distribution in the future – 500 were released in 1996 marking the state's sesquicentennial and the remaining 500 will be issued in 2046 in observance of the bicentennial. The obverse features the Old Stone Capitol. Iowa's state seal reverse. Lustrous, Brilliant Uncirculated condition.
