In 1936, the San Francisco-Oakland Bay Bridge was opened to travelers. This handsome silver coin was struck by the San Francisco Mint to honor the occasion, depicting the Bay Bridge and Ferry Tower on its reverse. These issues were sold to drivers from booths on either end of the bridge – as perhaps the most unique way to acquire a commemorative coin! A total of 71,424 coins were distributed, but today an estimated 48,000 may exist in mint-state grades. We've sourced gorgeous AU specimens.
